Traditional Volunteer Firefighters are residents of the District and for the most part live WITHIN 5 miles of the centrally located Plattsburg Fire Station. Traditional Volunteer Firefighters are required to respond to at least 20% of calls in at least 1 out of every 3 quarters. Additionally, Traditional Volunteer Firefighters are required to attend at least 13 hours of training each quarter, and to participate in weekly apparatus and equipment familiarization opportunities. In return for their investment in the community, Traditional Volunteers receive a variety of benefits including training for a career in the fire and emergency medical services profession, Workman’s Compensation Insurance coverage, Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage, health and fitness room access as well as being eligible to participate in the District’s Education Assistance and Recruitment and Retention programs.

 

Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighter

Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighters may or may not be residents of the District and for the most part live MORE THAN 5 miles from the centrally located Plattsburg Fire Station. To be eligible for a Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighter position, the individual must show proof of completion of a Missouri 36-h Basic Firefighter program, or successfully complete the Missouri Division of Fire Safety Firefighter I program from a credible source. Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighters donate 24-h each month of their time to come to the Plattsburg community and staff the fire station for a minimum of a 6 hour shift at a time. Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighters are also required to attend at least 13 hours of training each quarter, and to participate in weekly apparatus and equipment familiarization opportunities as assigned on their scheduled shift. In return for their investment in the community, Scheduled Shift Volunteer Firefighters receive a variety of benefits including valuable work experience in their pursuit of a career in the fire and emergency medical profession, Workman’s Compensation Insurance coverage, Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage, health and fitness room access as well as being eligible to participate in the District’s Education Assistance and Recruitment and Retention programs.
